** NEW** - Adding weight to Intermodal models: Atlas Front Runner and Con-Cor APHS models; Dan Leavitt
Adding some weight to these unique models make them much more usable.  The Con-Cor car is the only RTR model of an All Purpose Husky Stack  (APHS) available and the Atlas Front Runner is a unique 'spine type' model that needs more weight to track better. Dan Leavitt shows a simple way of adding weight to these models. Click HERE for the PDF document.

NORFOLK SOUTHERN TOFC PICTORIAL

Scottt Borden [aka 'Red Rock'], has modeled
Norfolk Southern's 54'6" TOFC and shared this pictorial
of his recreaions of this unique piece of Intermodal equipment.
The Southern Railway and N&W converted these cars from boxcars in 1983 & 1984.

There is an article on page 20 of the Intermodal modelers Guide (Highlands Station) on kitbashing in HO. Similer techniques could be used on the Deluxe Twinstack model. HERE are some photo links, from Paul Bender's site, to an N scale kitbashed model of the MAXI STACK made by Ron Trowbridge.

Scratch-Build

Intermodal Enterance Gate/Office model.  Here's a nice example of a check in/out facility scratch-built by Mike Drzycimski.  Many Intermodal facilities and large distribution facilities have these type arrangements to get the trucks in and out quckly.
Visit Mike's layout HERE; The Southview Lines.
Mike used styrene from Evergreen to construct the model. It is based on the design published in the Kalmbach book "The Model Railroaders's Guide to Intermodal Equipment and Operations". The signs were created on a computer and printed with a color laser printer. Even the stop signs were printed and cut out by hand.
